I met a plan on ground – Edo Deputy Gov Godwins Omobayo

Written by on April 10, 2024

The newly sworn-in deputy governor of Edo State, Godwins Omobayo, has said he met a plan on ground.

Omobayo vowed to go along with the master plan upon his assumption of office as deputy governor.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, Omobayo said his appointment was a good decision by Governor Godwin Obaseki at the right time.

He said: “I already met a plan on the ground and all I need is to flow along with it. For instance, the government is done with the Benin masterplan; we are working on Edo Central and Edo North masterplans, and I happen to be critical of that design even before now.

“For Edo North, we have a lot of natural resources and we have illegal people coming to mine them, thus posing environmental hazards. We are incorporating the GIS system so that all of that will be captured and more importantly, to deliver our candidate for the September 2024 election. I am sure that with what the governor has done for our people now, we will get more than 80 per cent of votes from Akoko-Edo.”

Omobayo emerged as deputy governor of Edo State following the impeachment of his predecessor, Philip Shaibu.

Shaibu was impeached by the state House of Assembly after the adoption of the report of Justice S. A. Omonua (retd)-led impeachment panel.

The panel was set up by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu.

Eighteen out of the 20 lawmakers that attended the plenary on Monday, April 8, 2024, voted in favour of the impeachment, while one voted against it.
